Hi,
I have been sent a STEP file that was created in Solidworks but some of the parts are importing as multiple pieces instead of a single piece of geometry.
This piece is correct and how i would expect to see the other piece.
I have no experience with Solidworks so have no idea if this is something that needs to be fixed on that end.
Hi Paul!
I think it’s caused by the different materials of the knob and the text. If you select both parts and link the materials in KeyShot you can use the Tools button > Simplify Mesh and in the window you’ll see it will have a ‘merge meshes’ checkbox at the bottom right.
This will merge the meshes so it gets one object. Doing this will of course result in the text/stripes being gone so you’ll need to replace it with a label for example.
Or you cheat a bit and before you do the merging you duplicate the text object and unlink it’s material. Using this method, you can enlarge the text very slightly and still being able to use it. Not sure if that will work since I see some holes of numbers are missing.
You can also generate the text texture by turning the camera into ortho mode and make a render from the top with the text white and background black so you can use that as a mask and don’t have to redraw the text again.
I’m also no solidworks user but this kind of geometry is within a lot of those files.
